At the end of this first stage, Christian Estrosi became, in 1992, the first vice-president of the PACA Regional Council alongside Jean-Claude Gaudin. Re-elected deputy in 1993 and 1997, he was also elected in 2001 as general councillor of the canton of Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée, with more than 80% of the votes. On 2 June 2005, Christian Estrosi joined the government of Dominique de Villepin as Deputy Minister for Regional Planning, reporting to the Minister of the Interior, Nicolas Sarkozy. After Nicolas Sarkozy was elected President of the Republic, Christian Estrosi was re-elected Deputy of the 5th district of Alpes-Maritimes, and was appointed on 19 June 2007 by the President of the Republic Secretary of State for Overseas France.
On Tuesday 18 March 2008, Christian Estrosi resigned from his position as Secretary of State for Overseas France to devote himself to Nice and the people of Nice.
